Frequently Asked Questions
What are your photographic styles / backgrounds?
We tend toward photojournalistic coverage of weddings, though we also include formal group portraits if asked for. Our personal styles overlap somewhat, but we have different perspectives and methods when we photograph. Our styles complement each other, and together we cover a broad range of artistic vision. We both have formal training in photography and the broader visual and conceptual arts, and have been producing fine art photography together since 2002.

We began branching out into portrait photography in 2004, and have been photographing weddings since 2006. In this time we have gained much experience, and have put our many talents to use with great success. Our unique vision, our dedication and attention to detail, and our love of photography have helped us grow quickly into a quality wedding photography studio.

Do you shoot digital or film?
We shoot weddings and portraits with digital SLR cameras. We began investing years ago in digital photo technology, and have grown with the market. We currently have a professional digital studio capable of producing high quality image files and prints. In addition to our image editing and printing studio, we also have a digital video and audio production studio which we have begun to use for creating small wedding movies. We are very comfortable working with digital media and have found digital imaging solutions to be extremely powerful yet elegant creative tools.

Yes, we do travel to photograph weddings, engagement / bridal portraits sessions, and rehearsal dinners. We do not charge a travel fee within a certain distance of the Sacramento, CA, area. What does "edited images" mean?
This is the most common question we receive from customers. Each package comes with a specified minimum number of images that will be provided to a client on a CD as both high and low resolution files following a wedding. These images are color-corrected and optimized for printing from any photo lab offering digital printing services. These are the client's "digital negatives," and will produce very high quality prints. However, only a certain number of those images will be set aside to be worked on in post-production by our studio. The number of images that will receive this treatment depends on the package that is ordered, though any package containing a custom magazine style album will have no minimum or maximum amount of images specified for editing. The actual process of editing can include any combination of the following: retouching services (produces clean looking skin), conversion to black & white or sepia tone, artistic effects such as custom borders, artistic rendering of subjects, cropping of images, removal of unwanted objects from images, photo montage or collage of various images. The goal of the editing process is to produce believable yet polished images, or images that have been sytlized for a specific effect. The following link contains a small gallery of before and after images that help illustrate what we mean by "editing." (Note: the gallery will open in a new browser window.) What are Giclee prints?
Giclee prints are prints made with archival quality inks onto various surfaces, including canvas, fine art, and photo-base papers. The quality of giclee prints rival that of traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes; giclee prints are commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries. Our photography studio uses an Epson 7800 large format inkjet printer and archival pigment inks.

Will anyone other than Erin and Wendy be photographing my wedding?
We, Erin and Wendy, are the only staff photographers at the Sensiverse studio. For larger events or for clients requesting extended wedding coverage, we do have an assistant who will help us on the day of the wedding. Our assistant, an experienced photographer and artist, will help with the photography and setup as needed.

How are the 5-10 minute movies made?
We can create a small movie from still images, video footage we capture on the wedding day, or a combination of both. The movie created will depend on the theme of the wedding. The choice of music and audio for the movie is determined by the client. The movies are not intended to replace full video coverage of a wedding; they merely add a more dynamic element to the wedding photography. We will be adding samples of movies to our website in the future.

Why should the bridal portraits be photographed on a separate day from the wedding?
Most brides find themselves pressed for time on their wedding day. While we can capture beautiful portraits of a bride on her wedding day itself, we have found that the unhurried, low-stress environment of a studio or location portait shoot done on another day produces more natural and relaxed images of the bride. These portraits are some of the most important to the married couple and the families, so we highly recommend having them taken either before or after the wedding day.
